Announcement: Changing Of The Guard

I've attempted to delay the inevitable as long as possible, but I would like to announce today that I will be stepping down as a community administrator of ThinkClassic.

We started this community over a year ago, and in a relatively short span of time it has evolved well beyond what I could ever have planned for. It has taken on a life and culture of its own. Most seem to be satisfied with where the community stands at the moment, and I believe that now is the right time to take a final bow and let someone new take the reins.

My reasons are simple, and nothing personal to our community. I intend to spend more time focusing on my personal life and career, and getting myself in order leaves little time to actively check discussion forums, let alone manage them.

Working with you all to create this site from scratch has been a pleasure, and I trust that it will remain in good hands. Mcdermd, LCGuy and bbraun are well respected in the vintage Mac community and know what it means to be a vintage Mac enthusiast. They have been actively involved in the planning of this site for some time now. I will allow them to decide whether a fourth administrator is necessary and if so, appoint someone in my place.

I'll continue to work with the administration to implement and document a couple of last-minute requested improvements to the site.

I wish everyone here the very best and thank all of you for allowing me to be your administrator for the last 16 months.

Regards,

iMic.

Thanks for everything you've put into Thinkclassic, iMic. I think I speak for everyone when I ask that you remember to swing by and kick the tires every so often! We're not just Apple enthusiasts, we're friends too.

Thanks for everything Michael. I can honestly say that ThinkClassic would be nowhere near what it is today if it wasn't for all your hard work. Best of luck in the future, and I hope to see you swing by again some time in the future.

Re: Announcement: Changing Of The Guard

I should still be around and open to questions here and there. This is mostly about stepping out of a role that could be time consuming - when I started the site, building the forum extensions and stylesheets took weeks of continuous effort, and the upkeep from there on took almost as much time. I'd simply like to focus more on the machines and the projects themselves and less on running the site these days.

There is so much potential in this community that I encourage our team to have a vision and chase it, build onto the site, don't let it become stale and fade into obscurity. Forge friendships with other communities, be amicable  and encourage people from all walks of life to share in the passion for technology new and old.

Overall vintage Apples are no longer really my game, although I will make an exception or two for some machines. Newer machines are where I tend to focus my attention now, but since this community has been welcoming to the occasional stories of repairing a liquid damaged MacBook Pro or a fire damaged iMac, I see no reason to pack up and move on.

Re: Announcement: Changing Of The Guard

It tends to happen. Most of my "hobby" time has been spent in the arcade game realm lately. I still have the large Apple collection and pull stuff out from time to time but it's a lot more rare these days.

Still, I love the community we've got here and I'm more than willing to help with what I can.

Re: Announcement: Changing Of The Guard

For me, life's journey has been a series of detours. Enjoy every turn and bit of scenery along the way, but concentrate on the trip when necessary. Sounds like what you're doing right now. Good on ya, and thanks much for all your hard work. You, the other admins and the rest of the gang here helped me through a couple of rough turns.

Thanks much for giving so much, iMic, hope to see you stop by, revisiting places you've enjoyed along the way can be refreshing! wink
