Re: Those Q700 feets
well there are many ways to think about stuff. In a professional setting, eg, banks, insurence, high technology, engineering, etc professional, Women are dressed nice. Of corse not every situation is the same, lots of professional work places were women are in numbers, there is a slight fashion show going on. And it's always with class, not a bunch of young sluts in front of a club. About 10 years ago I used to sell business telephone systems and I used to see these kinds of things all the time .

No judgements, it's more like Jurassic Park Pterosaurs being humorously clumsy on land/concrete, but delightfully graceful in the sky/on the dance floor.
Besides, when in herds, women dress for each other, not for us.

Re: Those Q700 feets
So now that the feet are solved, is it time to move on to Q800/840/8100/8500/9500 drive bezels?!

Re: Those Q700 feets
Let's say you put together a scad file, would it even be possible to 3d print one? I am just thinking of all the overhangs and whatnots. Also, it would have to be two parts, because the eject button is typically a separate little piece that is attached with some melted ABS.
there's gold in them Q950 cd bezels...

Re: Those Q700 feets
The bezels are a little large for my printer. I think size-wise, it might just fit if I printed it on its end and angled it across the print space. Funny enough, my CD bezel is just fine, but my floppy bezel is the one with the clips broken off. I've got mixed feelings about messing with it though, since every time I touch these things more plastic breaks. Starting on replacing broken stuff with these, and you may as well get into the case reproduction business!

Re: Those Q700 feets
Heh, yeah I was just messing around on thingiverse and found someone's model of a foot, and found the import() directive to OpenSCAD to just import an existing STL file, so threw it in there. I haven't tried printing one yet, and I'd need to flip the foot to have right and left feet, but I thought it was amusing.

Re: Those Q700 feets
Well, I was printing some custom lego-compatible pieces so threw in a single foot just to see:
I'm using a different resin, and it seems to cure a little differently so the sizing isn't quite right, but a few tweaks here and there might make it ok.

Re: Those Q700 feets
Love the Big Foot!
I'm curious about this new resin. You mention legos and those are ABS... did you find something with similar properties? I have been spending an inordinate amount of time and money on legos recently... I still want to see that car you built!

Re: Those Q700 feets
Unfortunately, no, this resin isn't more like ABS. This resin is slightly more flexible and slightly softer than the clear one I was using for the feet before. It's not great for lego, it works, but has a limited number of connect/remove cycles because of the softness. It's not a great resin overall, but it's about 1/3rd the price of the clear resin I was using.
Generally speaking, I'm not convinced 3D printing lego-purchaseable pieces is a worthwhile thing, either financially or practically. Legos have amazing tolerances that are essentially impossible to achieve with 3D printing AFAICT, so the product is going to be lower quality in an obvious way. Although legos are expensive, the volume of resin used to print a piece is more costly than the average cost of a piece in a lego set. With an FDM printer the material cost is substantially lower, as is the printer cost, but even then I think it would take a lot of pieces to make it financially worthwhile.
That said, I do print out pieces that I or someone else has designed that don't exist in the lego universe. Sometimes I'll print out a single piece that is available from lego, but isn't worth purchasing a whole set to get it. They're still substandard lego pieces, but they might survive for a couple builds.

Re: Those Q700 feets
I see, thanks. Have you looked at Chris McVeigh's projects? I wonder if all of his parts are off the shelf? I guess I assumed he fabricated custom parts, but now I am not so sure... if it's not something you could bang out with a 3d printer. I don't know enough about lego to know about all parts ever made.

Re: Those Q700 feets
Ha, no I hadn't seen his page before. He has some neat stuff. Just from a quick perusal, it looked like his parts were off the shelf from lego which makes them that much cooler.
