Apple Macintosh LC Squealing ?

ITs for sure the Leaking Capacitors, they have gone bad and need to be removed.

Make sure you change them and clean up all that leaked cap goo. If you don't clean up all that GOO,  bad things will start to happen.
Like a Cooked Sound I/C or dead ADB Port,  etc.  Think of the Squealing as, letting you know caps need to be changed!

Then Your Mac LC will work and sound great!

Re: Apple Macintosh LC Squealing ?

Squealing? Like through the speaker or emanating from the board itself?

Re: Apple Macintosh LC Squealing ?

Standard issue with these guys, LC123    Caps go bad, Leak...  Then When you turn on the Mac...    High Pitched noise is sent out from the speaker. Witch can be really loud and annoying.

Re: Apple Macintosh LC Squealing ?

I think that is what happened to one of my LC's, it got to me when it was too late and the damage was already done. It works and all but no sound. I think the chip is fried. hmm Sound is barley audible with powered speakers on max.

Re: Apple Macintosh LC Squealing ?

Extremely common on these computers. I know some which were doing this as far back as 2000.

The short term fix is to unplug the speaker. Be aware I've also seen a few mute LCs, so take care of this issue immediately unless you want a mute LC II like I have sitting around!! (I should see about recapping that sometime, but first, I want to get my Classic II back on its feet!)

Re: Apple Macintosh LC Squealing ?

The LC I have had this same squealing problem, and a recap fixed it.

But giving it time, like actually doing something for a couple of hours on the LC, the sound changes from a squeal down in tone and from a flat line squeal to a warble.
