Hmm.  You know what would be a neat hack?  Have a Mac app that can save PRAM to the writable Plus ROM, and have the modified ROM load PRAM from ROM early at boot.  Boom, PRAM preservation with no battery.

Eventually though you would kill the cells in the flash memory? what about using a regular EEPROM for this, or a I2C serial eeprom (of course a controller would be needed then)

You could use something like an ATMEGA or ATTINY - it's build in EEPROM should be plenty for PRAM, and you'd have a microcontroller too.
