Hakko Fr-300 Integrated De-soldering iron

Price seems to range from 275-375 ( depending on what kit you want )

( have to make this quick )
I will finish this review later.

Got this one in, It was used once.  I think the person got frustrated with it.
And they said "this thing is not for me".

And the reason is this:
The heat setting was way to high it was set to 840f,  what happens when your heat is turned up like that
the tip gets burnt up/blackened, and your not melting solder any more.   I had to spend some time cleaning the tip
and i dialed the heat pot from setting 3 to 1.5.  Basically if solder will not ball on the tip like this.

then your tip is nasty and make sure you clean it, or else you will have a not pleasant de-soldering experience.
Regardless of the de-soldering iron.

I never let my hakko 808, tip get burnt like that, so i never once had these kinds of issues.

Re: Hakko Fr-300 Integrated De-soldering iron

Ok so i had some time to use this.

This Kit that i have here only came with one size tip.
Just so happens, The one I have is a pretty small one.

Its Heavier then the White Chinese Clone.
Seems to be made really well.  Its louder (when trigger pulled) then the Chinese Clone variant.

It's Made in Japan.

IF your tip is clean... and properly tinned it works really good.
Seems like it has about the same suction as the Hakko 808...
It's more quiet then the Hakko 808.

I do like the Spring-Loaded Quarter-Turn Mount and Dismount of the De-Soldering tip.

The Heater does seem to be really strong/fast, If the tip touches something substantial,
Seems like extra heat kicks in instantly, melting the solder.
Where with the Hakko 808 and the Chinese variant of this, They might take an extra second or so.

I Guess if I was buying a 10 pack for a production electronics repair house.

I would Favor the Fr-300 because of:
The standard Readily available/inexpensive consumables.
The Over all build quality.
The quick Change tips.
The really Great Thermal Recovery.
Quality Hakko Product support?  -- not sure how they handle customers when there is problems.

nothing a drill bit can't handle :-) haha    tips are like 10 bucks each…

I like to get my 60/40 solder… and chemtronics wick rolls from these guys…
best deals around.. they answer their phones. and will give you a contractors discount if you ask.
They are also one of the largest online distributors of HAKKO in the us.
You can buy all your 808 stuff there i am sure.

it works good, just jam the tip in the middle and turn it on, makes tip like new.

Re: Hakko Fr-300 Integrated De-soldering iron

I had to take the Fr-300 apart.

the gun fell from my desk to the floor, I have a hard wood floor.
better then concreate… but not as soft as carpet.

anyways after the fall there was rattling on the inside.
then the vacuum motor wouldn't work.

so i took it apart and there was 2 longer slivers of plastic about ¼ of an inch wide.
one of them was jamming the crankshaft of the pump so it would not spin.

so i removed those 2 pieces of plastic and put it all back together.
while it was a apart, i didn't really see where those pieces came from.

Slightly annoying… but the gun has been working good.
little hiccup there but,  oh well.
