Wow! Never knew these existed. I think I like it better in PB charcoal than the black version. Got matching KBD/Mouse?

Unfortunately not. A very kind Ebay member has since given me some free advice that the unit might not be dead after-all, and has advised me to test it with a comptible ADB keyboard and mouse - so I've ordered a cheap one of each.
I'm going to test the machine with these once they arrive to see if I can get anywhere with it.
The unit does seem to have some activity - there is an audible "Dzink" when the power button is switched on - a bit like how old tv's used to sound when you turned them on.
I guess I need the keyboard to actually power the unit on properly because of the triangle key.
If this doesn't work ill be selling a the keyboard and mouse too.
If it does work, I'll end the auction and begin to recondition / restore the unit next.

Open up the drawer in the back ad make sure there's not a Maxell Bomb installed in the battery holder. If there is remove the Vicious little Red thing IMMEDIATELY!
The ServiceSource (repair Manual) should be easy enough to find online.
If it's's like my 6360, there should be a power button somewhere on the machine, but I don't see one. If you have an old Sony remote control, try that.

We had them here in Australia as well. Both the 5400 and 5500 were available as a "Directors Edition" which were black, and came with the TV/Video System, and I think were bundled with video editing software, in addition to the regular platinum models that everyone got. I think I've also read somewhere about a black 6400 being available over in Europe, though never seen pics - can anyone canfirm if this was a thing?
Anyway I'd be willing to bet money that if you were to plug in an ADB keyboard and press the power key on the keyboard, that it'd boot right up. Or as jt said, a Sony remote (or even a universal remote programmed to control a Sony TV) will also power them up.

Is this one really charcoal, looks very 100 series/Duo gray to me. The black ones I've seen looked pretty darn black and very slick. OA Director's Edition is in the Museum of Modern Art's Industrial Design Collection. That'd be MoMA in NYC, cobber.

I looked, no mention of a power button that I could find, very, very strange.
