Imac g3 has hrizontal lines only in osx

about 6 years ago I given an Imac g3 ruby summer of 2000, it had only 10.4 tiger installed because he wiped it before giving it to me, at that time it did have faint horizontal lines that would apear when the system is loading anything the hard drive is also very noisy, i figured the crt is dieing so i used it a bit but it never died, it ran slow on 10.4 and I couldnt find compatible programs so i stoped using it, recently I installed os 9 as a second partition amd when I boot into os9 there are no lines. is there anyway to fix the lines in osx? any idea what the cause is?

Re: Imac g3 has hrizontal lines only in osx

There was a firmware upgrade that was required for G3 iMacs to reliably run OS X. I had a G3 iMac that looked  horrible in OS X until I applied the firmware.

OS X installers generally pick up on whether this is necessary and do the upgrade as part of the install, but this might have been missed somehow.

Don't know if it's your problem, but it's an easy thing to eliminate.
