Mackintosh Plus screen flickers and dies

Hi. I have been asked to sell a Mackintosh Plus 1Mb for a friend.
It all seems to start up fine, but the screen flickers and as it warms up, stops working completely.
Any likely / well known causes?
Cheers

Later update. Now when I turn it on there is a flickering yellow light showing out of the back, I think through the space where I removed the utterly corroded 4.5v battery. And an electrical burning smell. Turned it off quick.

Yathink? wink Up here, radio shack has squat, last I checked, they didn't stock a single crystal! How do you build anything worthwhile without a clock?

Ordering capacitors from a real supply outfit like Digi-Key or mouser is the way to go.

Did you check the solder on the analog board's connections to the CRT yoke? If those go cold, you could see similar behavior.
