Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
Just realized that I have 3 Macintosh IIx machines that i have gone through(re-capped)
They all power on but give no Tone, and do not boot.
That means i do not have even one working IIx right now.
crazy.
Pretty sure I still have 2 more IIx machines to go through and re-cap... Maybe I will get lucky and might be able to get at least one to work.
but its not looking too good so far. Kinda depressing, because these are a Bear to re-cap... and they always need a set of Pram batteries too.
Looks like caps they used on these boards have extra aggressive GOO and are rotting the traces.
or the solder mask is CRAP and the allows the goo to contact copper traces.
Anyone else have a working IIx?

Nope, mine went down the whirlpool. I have a functional IIcx though. Did they make substantial improvements to the analog gooey gobbers during the re-casing?

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
Certain tin cans seem to be the worst...
The ones that are a basic metal can, with a yellow and black label around the out side.
those seem to be the worst caps.

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
Do they stay powered up?
One of my IIx's would power up, but give no tone, no video and didn't boot then would shut off 10 seconds later.
Two little ic's between tha battery's and NuBus slots had corroded pins, I removed both cleaned the pads and resolderd them and it booted and ran just fine

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
I'm not sure if you recall but I had a lot of troubles tracking down the rotten traces in my IIx. It took me a few rounds of work a couple of months apart (I get too into it and need to put it down for a while) but I did finally get it fixed. Most of mine was in the same area as yours.

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
I wonder if its a poor application of solder mask?

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
Hello Guys
i recently acquire a Macintosh IIx in very bad conditions , i recapped logic board ( only the 47uF16v and one axial 10uf16v ) after recap the computer only starts with battery on psu contact as suggested, i followed your guides and found a lot of broken traces , now computer starts from keyboard and power key in the back , still persist the problem that i have NO video in any slot , i own another working Macintosh IIx and i have tested video card on this one and it works so i think the problem is somewhere on the logic board, i founded UC7 that i suppose it has a broken pin ( who can suggest me a replacing component for this one TIT939 BF ALS5651)?
any other suggestion is appreciated
thank you for your support

UC7 is TIT939 BF ALS 651 , on the other motherboard working i own is TI835 BF ALS651 , could be replaced with 74ALS651 ?or 74HCT651 8-bit dip24s?

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
Wow, the IIx is shaping up to be as much a problem as the Q840 with cap goo.
The closest I have to a IIx is some PAL SIMMs!

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
Put your 840av in the dishwasher top down and get some oxy detergent, and run a few cycles. And dry with compressor, my standard clean job is not good enough fir the 840av, they need an uktrasonic cleaner.

I just got a new Bosch dishwasher and the cycle is already almost 2 hours (more cleaning, less water, etc)... think that'll do it? And by compressor, you mean air compressor?
The only problem with mine, which we've talked about, is the on-board scsi... everything else works, as far as I can tell. If this could fix that, I'd be like a kid on Christmas

Re: Macintosh IIx Strangeness.
yeah because the cap goo runs under the scsi chip there.
and yes an air compressor.
