Resurrecting the USB to ADB adapter discussion

Hello all,

A while back (a couple of years?), I asked around about any project related to a USB to ADB adapter. I seem to remember someone suggesting that bbraun was attempting something like this, but I can't be certain.

In any case, I'd like to resurrect the discussion. Any thoughts on if/how/what steps are being made to develop a USB to ADB adapter. I don't mean the other way around (i.e. iMate ADB to USB). I'd like to be able to plug in a USB keyboard (for instance) into an ADB-based Mac. Why? Because AEKII keyboards are expensive and the non-mechanical keyboards (silicon/rubber actuators) are getting gummier and less responsive.

Any thoughts or developments in this area? Thanks!

Hmmm. So Steve is working on one. Wonder if he's made any progress since April. I shall...investigate.

I think there's a thread documenting another adapter development project in hacks over at the barracks.

Yeah, I think it's called ADB Busboy.

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB rates positioning at the top of the pinned list in hacks. I've been meaning to read past the mission statement and working prototype announcement, but I've been much too busy. hmm

Ah very good. Seems this project is definitely well underway. Looking forward to supporting it with some of my cold hard cash (in digital form)!

Re: Resurrecting the USB to ADB adapter discussion

Wow, this is amazing!  I'm so sick and tired of most of my ADB keyboards and mice.  It's nice to finally have options, particularly where I need compact keyboards.  Doing away with the need for mechanical mice is going to be quite a joy!  If second-button and scroll can be translated properly, all the better.  I will absolutely buy more than one of these adapters once they go into production.
