Re: The Mirror Drive Door '03 & Classic under 10.4.11 thread . . .

1) I just had a very pleasant surprise: I tried it on a lark, but my MDD'03 actually did boot from the 9.2.1 installer CD from the QS'02/1MHzDualy/FW400 package!

____I thought these puppies needed a special 9.2.2 install, what gives? Not that I'm complaining, mind you! big_smile

2) I've got a new 12" ALBook with a 10.4.11 install but an unknown SysAdmin password. I've emailed the nice lady who sold it to me on craigslist, but if the previous user was her dearly departed (or not so dearly deleted) I'd like to know if there's an Admin Password reset hack/utility available for Plan-B?

3) I've been watching Retail Tiger Package listings on our favorite virtual puddle. Are all Tiger Retail Boxen generic 10.4.0->.1/.11 upgrade friendly PPC installers? There aren't any part numbers in the wikipedia article, but the timeline points to the 10.1 upgrade installer info. Was there another updater for the Tiger.11 or was that the actual designation for the Tiger.1 updater.

I've seen "old version" descriptions of the Reatail Tiger Boxen. Was there a later Tiger Retail Box that was not Classic compatible?

Who's running Tiger/Classic on newer Macs than those I've listed?

For #2, boot from a 10.4 installer disc and select password reset from the Utilities menu. You can reset the system password for any user. Barring that, you can boot single-user mode, mount the root volume r/w and use passwd but the installer until is better.

Re: The Mirror Drive Door '03 & Classic under 10.4.11 thread . . .

LOL! The seller got back to me a couple of hours ago with the SysAdmin Password, so I was able to install Stuffit Deluxe in order to unstuff GraphicConverter. Unfortunately, it's the "Classic" version for running it from the OS9 "partition/whatever" and that's not installed.

Anybody know which version of GC runs under 10.4.11 offhand? LemkeSoft's info doesn't seem to go that far back.

< shudders at the thought >

I think I might actually be ready to give OSX a shot, now that I've got this cute, lil' 'Book. hmm

No, both 10.4.0 and 10.4.6 retail have Classic. What they lack is a System Folder.

I have both, but my quad requires 10.4.2, so I usually install 10.4.6, the 10.4.11 Combo installer, and then Software Update until you drop.

Anybody know which version of GC runs under 10.4.11 offhand?

6.7.9 is the last supported version: http://www.lemkesoft.de/produkte/graphi … /download/ (in German)

Yeah, got the same info today at the barracks, but the blurb in that link says it requires 10.4.x and up.

Here's what I've found on the unsupported GC release history so far:

Gotta see what's on the Pismo's drive, gotta find it first, I swapped it out for the PDQ+ drive when all the G4s were crapped out. IIRC I tried GC under X five years ago and decided it wasn't worth the bother. The new 12" AlBook G4 makes it wrth giving GC/X another try. Maybe I've found the killer app to nudge me past the 9.2.2 barrier.

OSX for my Pismo500 is as far as I'm willing to crossover into CatCrap territory and everymac's specs list 10.4.11 as the high end of PismoX.

I've drawn the line an' I ain't goin' no further  .  .  .  unless I decide to like X and decide that I need to get over it and buy an Air, that is. hmm

Once you decide that you like X, you'll hate 10.9+ where iCloud makes it's presence known.

I have an Air. I don't enjoy it, but it makes a better netbook than the ARM Chromebook I was using. I'm typing this on my iBook G4.

Re: The Mirror Drive Door '03 & Classic under 10.4.11 thread . . .

My buddy has a ChromeBook with an ubuntu hack conversion to a "real" computer, but maintaining that kind of thing is well beyond my capabilities. I like the ex-girlfriends 13" Air, so I'm going to start gathering info, though the purchase will be a long way off.

I've got a pile of links ready to start a new thread about the search for the "perfect" (from my perspective) used 11" MacBook Air. wink

THX for the info on GC, BTW. It turns out 11 is newer than 4, just learned about correct interpretation OS notation today from EudiG over at the barracks.

Re: The Mirror Drive Door '03 & Classic under 10.4.11 thread . . .

I made a little TLC time for the MDD'03 this morning. It's still doing fine booting off the tiny AlBook in Target Disk Mode under 10.4.11.

Thanks for that RAM injection, mcd! I finally got it installed and it came up roses! big_smile
