Updates to the Alpha Micro Phun Machine

A real, live Alpha Micro Eagle 300 with AlphaTCP serving you information on the unusual Alpha Micro 68K systems and their peculiar DEC-like operating system, AMOS.

New in this iteration is a lot of link cleanup, some custodial edits and a number of new downloads, including a tool for browsing ISO 9660 CDs and even a Rogue/Nethack port!

Neat!  I've always been curious about the Alpha Micros, but have never played with one.

Re: Updates to the Alpha Micro Phun Machine

I have a very soft spot for Alpha Micros because the AM-2000 at my church was the first computer I, uh, ever broke into. There was a race condition in the facilities management menu I discovered that allowed you to get to an AMOS command prompt by pressing BREAK on the terminal at the "right time." The system administrator knew someone had gotten into it because I'm sure I left a trail with my explorations (I learned AMOS completely on the fly, so I am certain I made some rookie mistakes) and she knew only one person was capable. I was allowed to keep my access if 1) I didn't mess with anything 2) I told her exactly how I did it and 3) I didn't break into anything else!

God will forgive me. smile

Re: Updates to the Alpha Micro Phun Machine

If you want an AM of your very own, http://www.ebay.com/itm/262481528439

$375 is a bit steep for this, but it does come with a tape streamer, and I suspect the hard drive is actually installed based on previous dealings with this seller. If you don't have an Alpha Micro terminal, AMOS has native drivers for Wyse 30, TVI-925 and equivalents, and I offer Kermit for getting more stuff on it. The only downside of the E100 is that it does not have built-in Ethernet. Compatible Ethernet SIMM cards (yes, really, it goes in a SIMM slot) turn up from time to time. An AM-366 would work fine with this unit.
