VAX Emulation on Pi

My brother was excited to get VAX/VMS emulation up and running on a Raspberry Pi and since my dad used to do a lot of work on Vaxen (including a lot of time with an 11/750 at the county), he wanted to get one made up for him. He asked me to make a sticker:

Next up, we want to get on the list for the PiDP-8 kit and give it to the old man for his birthday.

Re: VAX Emulation on Pi

Nice!  Are you using simh for the emulation, or something else?  The only real problem with simh is since the vax cpu never slept, simh is all full speed all the time.  I guess there's some effort to detect VMS' idle states from within the emulator to allow the host to idle rather than consume power and get hot, but I don't know how good that is.

Re: VAX Emulation on Pi

So how many VAX MIPS does a Raspberry Pi manage, anyway?

Flap Different.

Re: VAX Emulation on Pi

No idea on any of it. I've never used anything DEC. My dad and brother did a lot.

Re: VAX Emulation on Pi

Or you could just get an entirely more manageable VAXstation (well, more manageable than a big VAX wink ).
