My New SE

In time for the Mac's 32nd birthday, I got myself another old Mac. This one is an SE SuperDrive.

Re: My New SE

Wow, if I would have known that I would have given you an SE. I have more SEs than I know what to do with...

Re: My New SE

So I guess I never did give any updates on this one!!!

Initial test: no boot.

Inside the SE was a filthy enclosure and a leaked battery. The poor Mac looked like it had lived on a moisture farm or something.

The board may be salvageable. I'm going to clean it sometime when I get the chance. Since then, I have placed another SE SuperDrive board inside and installed a green LED on the hard drive access light. The Mac does work now and has been a part of my work with the kids (in fact, it got to be a print server one month for a shared StyleWriter II).

It currently has 4MB RAM installed. I also found a programmer's switch for it (well, I took one off an SE I am not using at the moment).

Overall, a nice Mac in decent shape now that it has a working board in it. The only unresolved issue is a gummy floppy drive. I've used an external with it so far and hope to clean that drive out soon (or swap it with one of the other SuperDrives I've pulled from machines I've parted).

Re: My New SE

I'm guessing a lot of it was environmental, specifically where this SE was stored. I should take a picture of the inside sometime, it still has this black mildew-like stuff inside it.
