All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

Posted in it with TLSv1, SHA-256 certificate support and TLS SNI!

I have to do some more testing on it, but it even works with that site we dare not mention here that sort of provoked the whole thing.

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

Probably later this week when I've finished certifying it on the local machines. This is being typed on the 7300. I like to test  it on that machine, plus the 1400+G3, strawberry iMac and TiBook to get a good selection. I think I might give it a spin under Rhapsody this time as well in BlueBox.

How difficult would it be to get SSL going on a 68k?

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

Well, OpenSSL compiles more or less in CodeWarrior, but it's more of a matter of hooking it up to something. I don't have an open source browser that runs on a 68K Mac. I tried to get the source code for MacWeb and WannaBe from their creators a while back, but neither of them has it anymore. So my recommendation is to get a PowerPC card and 8.6 on your 68K. big_smile

You could hack the MacPerl-based build system for Classilla to use an older 68K compatible CodeWarrior, and that will work on a 68K (MacPerl 5.2.0r4 has a CFM-68K build), but you would need to convert the .mcps, some stuff wouldn't build without changes, the Unicode support and certain other things would need to be disabled, and you might run up against CODE resource size limits so there's no guarantee it would even function. Not a job I'm terribly thrilled to tackle, though I would be happy to offer technical advice, and I wouldn't do it on anything less than an uprange Quadra.

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

yuck.. that sounds like work.

Which another thought crossed my mind, is there even any source code available to any 68K browser out there? or would something have to be entirely re-written or backported. Still.. not my idea of fun.

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

porting something like links2 might be a easier task to complete it has SSL support and under *nix it can display graphics both on the framebuffer and X11 and several others

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

How well do you think it would run on a 1400 with a 466MHz G3/64MB RAM?

It runs fine, because that's what I ran it on last night. That exact configuration, even.

The 466MHz G3 is really nice. I could not imagine returning to the original 603e.

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

@ techknight: Heh! big_smile I bought that one brand new ten years ago, gotta love Sonnetization!

I also snagged a boxed NewerTech VIEWpower 1400/16 for Beater fairly recently, but that will drop the RAM by one card IIRC. One day I'll put an SSD in there and then installing the VidCard won't really matter.

Great news on that config's performance, C. Fabulous work, now I've gotta get Faux9 installed on the 12" AlBook: Beater Mk.IV. wink

yea... yea... yea... just rub it in. It stings bad enough as it is, do we have to pour acetone and alcohol on it too? lol.

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

Working here, except that occassionally a website that was working will suddenly start stop with the error classilla could not communicate securely. Restarting classilla fixes the problem. So I am really happy with this release with it and YTBrowser9 every site I need/want works no need for the for the Tiger taking up space on my hdd

Can you give me an example of how to trigger this? I don't remember seeing this in any of my testing. If there is an error number, please advise.

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

Not sure how to trigger it, but for example thinkclassic seems to trigger it the most so far. I'll load thinkclassic then load another page and when I comeback to thinkclassic I get classilla and thinkclassic.org could not communicate securely because there are no common algorithms. But,it doesn't happen everytime. I've deleted my profile and it still occurs.
My specs are iBook G3 600MHz/640MB/30GB connected via airport Mac OS 9.2.2 its the OS9General.dmg for the MDD400

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

Are you using HTTP/1.1, Keep-Alive or pipelining? (Look in preferences.)

If you only have one secure site open, does it still happen?

Re: All hail the conquering Classilla 9.3.3

http 1.1 keep alive and piplining are off. Using a single sercure site at a time has not tripped it guessing maybe something with multiple tabs
