Meet ups!
One thing I've always found to be fun is the times when you get to meet up with other members of the online Mac community face-to-face. It's even better if the time you've "known" them is completely online beforehand. I was lucky enough to see volvo242gt, macdrone (you here yet?) and Mk.558 today. We swapped some stories, traded some parts and looked a several nice Volvos, new and old. Has anybody else met up IRL? In my mind all you Aussies are neighbors.

Re: Meet ups!
I met up with BigMessoWires when I took a trip to the US in February. We went to WeirdStuff. Was an awesome day. I'm also friends with MidnightCommando (from the 68kMLA) who is also based here in Sydney, and we meet up every now and then.

Re: Meet ups!
I haven't been to many meet up for a while. It's always good to see and chat to other people in person. Is there one coming for Sydney area?

Welcome Antony. At the moment, members in Sydney consist of you...me....and thats it. Once we get more Sydney members I'll definitely look at organising a Sydney meet.

Re: Meet ups!
Hi guys!! First post on this particular forum, but I think most of you know me (looking around here, almost everyone is familiar to me).
I have been going to the various VCF events on the eastern side of the US for the past few years. Last year, I was at VCF SE in Atlanta. This past year, I did the VCF East in New Jersey. I may wind up going to both next year depending on various factors, and while I won't spoil anything for what I may be planning exhibit-wise (I do have something planned), I would love to see a meet up at either event.
Although the NJ event is the "classic" VCF on this side of the States, the Atlanta VCF has the Apple Pop Up Museum. Either would be a great choice. Both are about 10-11 months away now, so details will have to fall into place later, but with either of these cities a quick flight or convenient drive from most places east of the Mississippi, I'd like to see a huge Mac turnout (it seems we always get beat out by Commodore people, and while I have nothing against them, it would be nice to see as much enthusiasm for the Mac as the C64, Amiga, etc always get).

Re: Meet ups!
I think it'd be good to have maybe bi-monthly (or, even semi-annual, say every six months or so) meetups in various locations where multiple members live. I know that there are quite a few PacNW members, some who have yet to make their way here from the other forum, and some who are already here.

Re: Meet ups!
Sydney meetups have historically consisted of myself and LCGuy screwing around with .... well, everything, actually, not just Macs
If we can get a few more Sydney people I'd definitely be interested in doing a mass descent onto an unsuspecting pub for lunch or some such
(edit: p.s. antony701 your netscape archive saved my bacon several times over the years, I need to buy you a $beverage )

Re: Meet ups!
We have a number of So Cal members. I don't mind hosting a meetup; I've certainly got the house for it.

Re: Meet ups!
If anyone is near Pittsburgh and wants to see these machines in action, give me a holler and I'll invite you to be a lab assistant at Macs for Kids, a monthly program at my church for children with disabilities. I use 68K Macs with them to build creativity, hand-eye coordination, basic academic skills, and self-confidence.

Re: Meet ups!
Yeah, Hap and a few others (mori512k, as one example) are about the closest.
For a week back in mid-June, I was within an hour's drive of TMG, but circumstances at the time didn't allow for any meetups (I was going to buy some machine of his, I don't remember what model, but it didn't work out).
I wanted to meet up with Hap this summer, but the logistics proved too difficult.
Oh, well. If anyone happens to pass through Northern California sometime, let me know. I'm approximately somewhere between I-5 and US 101, and about 2 1/2 hours west of Sacramento (bonus points if anyone can figure out what counties exist there; hint: lots of grapes and other types of "crops").

Very close! I'm about 60 miles north of Napa.
Any other guesses? Another hint: There's some surface water....

Re: Meet ups!
Yep! I'm in Kelseyville, just a bit southeast of the north/northwest shore of Clear Lake.
I felt the earthquake a little last night around 3:30-3:45, and figured it was just another of many 3.x or 4.x quakes we often get here (there is a rather large geothermal power facility nearby). Apparently it wasn't! (we're fine, though; no damage).
I heard a few people got critically injured and several buildings were evacuated. Scary!
Thank goodness it wasn't S.F.. That would've been disastrous!

Re: Meet ups!
LCGuy - that was a fun trip. I was actually just back at Weird Stuff today. For some reason, they had a huge supply of mannequins. ??? I suppose that does count as "weird stuff", but I thought it was supposed to be an electronics store.
I met cc333 and olePigeon last weekend in San Jose, at another surplus electronics store very similar to Weird Stuff. We wasted an hour while I waited for them inside the store, and they waited for me outside. Doh! We didn't get to spend that much time chatting, unfortunately. But I did sell some hardware out of the back of my car, in a scene that really looked like a nerdy drug deal.
Also met haplain last year and had a chance to see the "Macintosh museum" at his place.

I read this as "and old Mac and Cheese." I'm not flying to southern California for pinball and old mac and cheese!

Re: Meet ups!
I know, right? To bad I am all the way over here in ohio. At least I have the Dayton hamvention, however it seems vintage computers are starting to dry up there significantly. And the ones that do show up are being posted at insane prices when they were cheap.
I guess the ebayarianism bug has bitten there as well. About 4 years ago or so they had racks of macs and apple 2 stuff for $5 to $15 bucks.

Since there seems to be a large density of folks in the oregon/washington coastish areas, how's about OFest for Oregon. No, wait, that sounds bad. PFest for Portland? Hmm, no sounds bad too.
