Just got a Macintosh 30/SE and need some help/advice

Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum so please bear with me. I just picked up some older macintosh equipment and am in need of some advice. I acquired 2 SE/30s and 2 M2115 external hard drives. I got home and tried to power things up and one SE/30 loads up and seems to be working well, the other does not and had a piece of paper from the original owner taped to the top that says to bypass internal hard drive press command, option, control, and delete on start up. I would like to keep one and have one external set up on it but I can't figure out how to access the external HDs when they are connected or how I might go about booting the second (currently not working) SE/30. I can tell the one that is working has been modified as it has an ethernet connection on the back. I would like to figure out how to tell what may have been changed from the original specs (in terms of Ram, HD etc.) If you have any tips on how to access the externals, find out specs on the SE/30, or what I need to do when booting the second SE/30 please let me know! I am not really all that knowledgeable about tech from this time and am trying to figure it out as I go.
Thanks in advance!
